The Old Post Office at Hilton, Cambridgeshire
We take care to sanitise as much as we can in the cottage and leave longer periods between bookings with open windows to refresh and better ensure safe stays.
The Old Post Office has been restored to provide a welcoming self-catering retreat.
Guests' comments include: “We enjoyed our stay in your lovely cottage – everything we could have needed was here.” "Great cycling routes." “Thanks so much, great décor, good equipment, lovely location and warm, friendly welcome.” "We have enjoyed our stay here. Lovely area – a bit of old England! Cottage is superb – everything you need."
The Old Post Office is self-contained and sits within Hilton Hall grounds. The Hall has been home to artists – Robert Little and later David and Angelica Garnett, whose many artist and literary friends from the Bloomsbury set visited them here. Hilton is a tranquil, conservation village, with a cricket green, a 27-acre common and an historic turf maze, one of only eight left in England. We have lots of local wildlife many of which can be spotted in our garden.
Hilton is 2.5 miles from the A14, about 10 miles from the A1, 4.5 miles from St Ives and 12 miles from Cambridge.
Do visit the village website where there is an extensive archive and detailed history of both the village and its most interesting properties: http://www.hilton-village.com/
Find out more about St Ives at the Norris Museum - www.norrismuseum.org.uk/ . The town sits on the Great Ouse and has held regular street markets for over 900 years and still does.
Cambridge has a wealth of interest and events – check the Visit Cambridge website: www.visitcambridge.org/; see also National Trust and English Heritage sites.
Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey are nearby with many attractions and events.
We are within day-trip distance of the Norfolk Broads and the north Norfolk Coast; the RSPB headquarters at Sandy and their closest reserve at Fen Drayton is only a few of miles away.
